Year 6 Art – Kenojuak Ashevak

This week in Art, Year 6 have been exploring the work of Kenojuak Ashevak, an Inuit painter whose style links beautifully to our Frozen Kingdom topic. Ashevak was strongly influenced by the natural world and her unique heritage, often using pointillism to create texture and depth in her artwork.

Inspired by her techniques, we planned and created our own pieces in her style. The children experimented with using black and white to mix different tones, tints and shades, which allowed them to add shadow and depth to their work.

We were really impressed with the creativity, focus and knowledge the children demonstrated throughout the process. Their finished pieces are a fantastic celebration of Ashevak’s style, while also showcasing their own artistic ideas.
