At Captain Webb Primary School and Nursery we inspire to enrich the lives, broaden the horizons, and challenge our pupils to achieve their best future.
We believe that education is about much more than academic achievement. We are committed to providing a rich and varied programme of personal development and enrichment opportunities that help every child grow into a confident, responsible, resilient and well-rounded individual.
Personal development is at the heart of everything we do. Through carefully planned experiences, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to succeed both in school and beyond. We strive to ensure that every child has opportunities to discover new interests, develop talents, build friendships and gain valuable life experiences that broaden their understanding of the world around them.
Personal Development Through Our Curriculum
Our commitment to personal development is woven throughout our entire curriculum. Alongside our academic subjects, children benefit from our dedicated Life Learning Curriculum, which supports pupils in developing the skills, values and understanding needed for modern life.
Through Life Learning, children explore important themes such as:
- Relationships and wellbeing
- Emotional resilience and mental health
- Staying safe online and offline
- Diversity, equality and inclusion
- Economic wellbeing and future aspirations
- British Values and citizenship
- Healthy lifestyles and personal responsibility
These learning experiences help children to become respectful, informed and active members of their communities.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
We recognise that some of the most memorable learning happens outside the classroom. Educational visits and visitors enhance children’s understanding of curriculum subjects whilst providing exciting, real-life experiences.
Pupils regularly take part in:
- Local area visits
- Museum and heritage trips
- Outdoor learning experiences
- Sporting events and competitions
- Cultural and community visits
- Visits linked directly to curriculum topics
- Residentials (home and abroad)
These opportunities bring learning to life, inspire curiosity and help pupils make meaningful connections between their learning and the wider world.
A Wide Range of Enrichment Opportunities
Our extensive enrichment offer ensures that children can develop new interests, talents and passions.

Crucial Crew
Crucial Crew provides personal safety training and awareness courses for youngsters who are about to leave primary school and move on to the next phase of their education at age 11. The aim is to raise awareness of issues which might affect their health or wellbeing, including circumstances where they or others may be exposed to danger
These activities promote independence, resilience and healthy lifestyles whilst teaching important safety skills.
Themed Days and Weeks
Throughout the year, children participate in a range of themed events that enrich their learning and promote personal growth.
Examples include (but are not exclusively):
- Healthy Schools Week
- Refugee Week
- Mental Health Week
- Day of Welcome
- Neuro-Diversity Week
- Black History Month
Charities
At Captain Webb children are often involved in the support of charitable organisations to teach our children about the social good. From dressing up for Children in Need or donning a red nose for Comic Relief to donating food for the Harvest Festival, our children are continuously involved in charitable giving for one cause or another, both at home and in school. As well as raising vital funds for many worthy causes, the hope is that engaging children in giving behaviours early on will help to develop ‘habits’ of giving that stay with them throughout their lives.
In the last year they have raised money for:
- Dogs Trust
- Refugees in the local area
- NSPCC
- Sports for Champions
- Harvest Donations
- Poppies
