Yearly Overview
Curriculum Framework Overview – Year 1
Year 1 trips
Autumn 1 takes us back to the past. We visit Weston Park as part of our History topic Memory Box. We take part in a workshop all about Victorian toys. This will take place on Tuesday 22nd September 2026.
In Autumn 2 we become Street Detectives. As part of this Geography topic we learn all about our locality and take a Telford Tour to see the sights. These include Ironbridge, the Wrekin and Telford Town Park. We also take a walk around Dawley so that we can create a map when we arrive back at school.
Spring 1 sees us travel back in time in our topic ‘Heroes and Heroines’ to learn all about Florence Nightingale. We enjoy an online workshop with ‘History Off The Page’ where we make our own lamp and come to school dressed as Florence or a soldier from the Crimean War.
Our Spring 2 topic is Paws, Claws and Whiskers. We visit the Exotic Zoo to learn about animal classification. Our interactive workshop allows us to hold animals as well as visit them in the zoo.
In Summer 1 we visit pre-historic Britain and participate in Dino Day as part of our Dinosaur Planet topic. We will be visiting West Midlands Safari Park – Land of the Living Dinosaurs and at school we will bring dinosaurs to life through our parent Design & Technology workshop. We also become archaeologists and discover fossils.
For Summer 2 we explore the great outdoors and learn all about flowers and trees in our topic Enchanted Woodland. We visit our local National Trust Attingham Park to investigate what flowers grow where we live. We also visit Holy Trinity Church as part of our RE lessons.

Homework will be given out on a Monday and back in the following Monday.
The teacher will mark their homework on a Monday. For each completed spelling, maths or read, the child will receive a dojo point. If a child completes all homework for the week, they will also receive a raffle ticket. If 100 raffle tickets are collected by the end of the half term, the class will receive a special treat!
Your child will also bring home a Bedtime Story. There is no expectation to record this anywhere but it would be a lovely chance for you to read to your child at bedtime.
