Summer 2 – Week 3 – Little Red Riding Hood

This week the children have been fully immersed in the story of Little Red Riding Hood, exploring the tale through a range of creative, hands‑on activities.

They have:

  • Made Granny’s basket, practising their scissor skills and developing confidence in cutting and assembling materials.
  • Created fruit pictures to go inside the basket, using their number knowledge to recognise and order numbers to 5.
  • Used their subitizing and composition skills to build a Numicon path to Granny’s house in the sand tray, exploring number patterns and early addition in a playful way.
  • Worked together on a large‑scale map of Red Riding Hood’s journey to Granny’s house, adding details and thinking carefully about what she might see along the way.
  • Retold the story using props and prompts in the tuff tray, building their language, sequencing and storytelling skills.
  • And of course, they have been very busy making their Father’s Day cards, putting lots of thought and care into their designs.

It’s been a lovely week of imagination, creativity and growing confidence. The children should feel very proud of everything they’ve achieved.

I’m a little teapot

This week we explored the little teapot story and rhyme. The children have spent the week exploring tipping and pouring in the water tray and trying to identify full and empty. The children have used their hands to dip and squeeze the tea bags to make our own blend of tea.

We set up a tea shop in our roleplay area and used our maths skills to share out the cups, plates and cakes with our friends. The children also had a go at making their own sandwiches and cakes using the playdough and decorated their own tea pots using different marks to create patterns and shapes.

Year 5/6 Boys Crossbar Cup

On Wednesday we entered the Year 5/6 Boys Crossbar Cup at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, consisting of 13 teams from Shropshire.

In the group stage we played against some quality opposition, including some national finalists. We managed to win 3, draw 2 and lose 1 whilst only conceding 2 goals across the 6 games meaning we finished top of the group on goal difference.

Into the semi-finals we comfortably won 3-0, which meant we would play against Redhill Primary in the final. Our best performance of the day meant we came out as 2-0 winners in the final and Crossbar Cup Champions.

Extremely proud of the boys who battled so hard all day and played some absolutely fantastic football.

Y1 Visit Attingham Park

In Year 1 we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Attingham Park as part of our science unit on plants. We completed a plant hunt and looked for wild and garden plants. We found roses, foxgloves and cow parsley. We also identified different trees by looking at their leaves. We loved the visit so much we will be writing a recount all about it for everyone to read.

Congratulations to Sophie in Year 4

Well done Sophie for completing her Level 2 sailing test at the weekend.  We are very proud of you!

Marc Quinn Inspired Sculptures

We have finished our Marc Quinn inspired sculpture work. Here are some of the pieces we created. Aren’t they amazing?! 🌷🌸🌹🌺🌻🌼

Y6 Forest Schools

Year 6 have been patiently waiting for their forest school slot for this academic year, and now the weather is picking up, they are really enjoying some forest school activities, making dens, whittling wood and learning all about nature. It is lovely to see them enjoying the outdoors.

Y6 Bikeability

Year 6 have had the opportunity this week to take part in Bikeability, a national scheme, which aims to teach children road safety when out on their bikes.
It has been great to see so many children sign up for this and take to the roads with specialist instructors.
