International First Aid Day – Year 5
In year 5 we looked at how to place an injured person into the recovery position. How to deal with a nose bleed and what to do if a person was impaled by an object. We recognised that ‘first aid’ is the initial step to helping a casualty and also learned the phone numbers to call if an injury was deemed more serious.
Week 3 ‘My Mum’.
This Week in Preschool
This week the children have been enjoying the story “My Mum”. We have shared lots of discussions about our families and the special people who care for us.
The children have loved caring for the baby dolls, bathing them and looking after their needs. This has encouraged lots of nurturing play, communication and imaginative thinking.
In our maths activities, the children explored 2D shapes while creating houses. They worked hard to name and recognise rectangles, squares and triangles, discussing the different shapes they used in their designs.
The children also had great fun making their own alien families with play dough, using their imagination and creativity to create unique characters. They continued their family theme by drawing pictures of their own families, focusing on enclosing spaces and adding more detail to their drawings.
In the sand tray, the children sorted the bear families by colour and size, developing their early mathematical skills through grouping and comparing objects.
We have also enjoyed revisiting familiar stories and retelling them using our teddy bear characters. The children showed growing confidence in recalling key events and bringing the stories to life through role play and storytelling.
It has been a lovely week full of creativity, imagination and learning as we explored the theme of families together! 😊
Year 5 – Blitz Art
As part of our History unit all about WW2, we created some pieces of art inspired by ‘The Blitz’ of 1940-41. We used pastels to create the vivid sunset for our cityscapes.
European Languages Day
KS2 was lucky enough to take part in an interactive assembly led by the Primary Languages Network with 8,000 students from around the country.
The session was designed to celebrate all languages. We recognised we have children who are native speakers of over 10 different languages in KS2 here at Captain Webb.
During the assembly the children took part in a number of activities using their visual and language detective skills.
Congratulations Sophie Mai
Congratulations to Sophie Mai in Year 6 on making the reserve list for Birmingham Royal Ballet’s production. This is a huge achievement. We are very proud of you and wish you lots of luck!
Spot loves his Dad
This week we have continued to look at our families and where we live. We explored the places and things we like to do together just like Spot does in the book .The children have been creating tiny towns with the small world houses, cars and people and have been moving around the roads we created in the garden.
We talked about different emotions and had a go at recreating them in the mirror and identifying them in some of our favourite stories.
School Photos 6th October
School Photographs – Tuesday 6th October
Our annual school photographs will be taking place on Tuesday 6th October. Individual photographs and sibling photographs for children attending our school will be taken throughout the school day.
For families with children attending different schools, there will be an opportunity for sibling photographs to be taken between 3:15pm and 4:00pm after school.
Please ensure your child comes to school in full school uniform and looking their best for their photograph.
Harvest Festival
As part of our Harvest Festival, we are kindly asking for donations of long-life food items that are within their expiry date. All donations will be given to a local food bank to support families in our community.
Please bring any donations to the school office.

Week 3 Learning through Play
This week in our continuous provision, the children have been busy applying their learning across the curriculum. In the creative area, they used their art knowledge and skills to draw self-portraits, inspired by our focus artist, Thomas Gainsborough. In English, the children practised matching capital letters to their lower-case partners, developing their letter recognition skills. In Maths, they explored finding one more and one less using our maths tuff spot activities, helping to build their understanding of number and place value. We are very proud of their enthusiasm and independence in their learning! 😊
