Yearly Overview
This is our curriculum overview for this year. You can see what exciting topics and learning your children will be completing in school.
Curriculum Framework Overview – Year R
Reception Trips
During Autumn 1 we are learning all about people who help us this half term. The trip to The Little Play Place in St Georges allows the children to apply their knowledge of job roles and immerse themselves into imaginative role play. On 14th or 15th Oct 2025 (TBC)
In Autumn 2 We will be walking to our local church to meet Reverend Jo. This will be at The Holy Trinity Church Dawley. We will learn about The Nativity Story and share some of our songs from our Christmas show. All parents are welcome to join us on our walk and celebrations. On the15th or 16th December 2025 (Date TBC), (time TBC)
During Spring 1 We will be learning about Transport. The children will get an exciting opportunity to go on a double decker bus experience to our local train station and then experience a train journey. Your child will need an adult to join them on this visit. On the 27th or 28th January (Date TBC), (time TBC) (AM visit)
In Spring 2 we will be learning about Farms and the different animals we will find in a farm. We will be going on an exciting coach journey to Park Hall Farm. The farm will be exclusive to Captain Webb Reception and the children will engage in many learning activities around the animals. On the 17th or 18th March (Date TBC), (time TBC)
During the Summer 1 half term our topic is topic is “In The Garden.” We will be going on a journey to the wonderful Severn Valley Country Park. Once at the park, their rangers will lead us in exciting activities like pond dipping, mini beast hunting and grass sweeping. On the 19th, 5th or 7th May TBC
In Summer 2 we will learn all about Fairy tales this half term. The first book will be the Gingerbread Man. We get to walk to our local bakery, The Golden Rolls in Dawley. Where the children will get to be the customer and purchase their very own gingerbread man. We will require parent helpers on this trip, on the 5th June (time TBC)
During the second part of this half term we will visit Wonderland Telford where we will immerse ourselves into the imaginative world and learn all about the different nursery rhymes and fairy tales. On the 22nd, 23rd or 24th June (Date TBC), (time TBC)
Important days
On Wednesday we have Forest School. Your child will be in the Forest for roughly 2 hours. They can come to school in a long sleeved T shirt and trousers. Please pack waterproofs and wellies in a separate bag.
On Thursday we have music which is delivered by Music Minors.
On Fridays we have PE which is delivered by Crossbar Coaching. Your child can come to school in the correct school PE kit.

Homework expectations
Reading
- Children are to read 4 times a week with their Phonics reading book from school and noted down in their reading diary.
The teacher will mark their homework on a Monday. For each completed read, the child will receive a dojo point. If a child completes all homework for the week, they will also receive a raffle ticket. If 100 raffle tickets are collected by the end of the half term, the class will receive a special treat!
Your child will also bring home a Bedtime Story. At the start of the year you can record this in their reading record. This is a lovely chance for you to read to your child at bedtime.
