Bike4Life Year 6

This weekend, George (in Year 6) attended and supported the Bike4Life event with his family. The well-known ride is 26 miles from Meole Brace in Shrewsbury, to the Bike4Life Festival at Weston Park in Shropshire and attracts more than 6,000 bikers, who help to raise money for the Air Ambulance. Well done George for spending your weekend supporting such an important cause!

Fundraising – Diabetes UK

We are so proud to share Rooney’s efforts with you, from Year 6, who has been fundraising for Diabetes UK completing a sponsored swim. Since the 22nd of March, Rooney has swam well over 12 miles (surpassing his goal of 11 miles), raising over £350 for charity. His hope is to help raise awareness for Diabetes and support his grandmother who lives in Hong Kong. We are so proud of you Rooney! Just keep swimming!

SATS Reward

Year 6 have worked incredibly hard in the run up to their SATS this week and earned a well-deserved treat: a trip to the town park for a picnic and play on the equipment. The sun was shining and we had a lovely afternoon. We are so proud of the way the children have conducted themselves this week, really rising to the challenge! Well done Year 6!
A special thank you to Zach’s mum for keeping us cool and refreshed with ice lollies and ice cream – very much appreciated and enjoyed by all. Thank you!

Loudmouth Workshop

Year 5 and 6 were invited to a workshop with Loudmouth today, a theatre in education company, who taught us all about how to stay safe online. We covered lots of different scenarios with the team who taught us about misinformation, disinformation and how to spot these online. We also went over what to do if we see something online that upsets us, and who we can discuss this with.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week Y6

Neurodiversity Celebration Week aims to bring about worldwide neurodiversity acceptance, equality and inclusion in schools and workplaces. In Y6, we spoke about what people who have neurodiversity may find difficult. We also talked about how best to support children in our classroom. We discussed how all our brains are different and we all have strengths, things we find more difficult and preferences to learning.

France Residential Year 6

Year 6 have had a fantastic 4 days in France. We have had a very cultured visit, sight seeing around Amiens, Montdidier and Pierrefonds. The children have also been practicing their French skills, visiting shops and bakeries around the town. We were really impressed with how the children immersed themselves into the French culture – trying new things (including frog’s legs and snails) and expanding their language skills. A hugely enjoyable visit that we look forward to hosting again next year.

EKO Art Project Y6

At the beginning of the year, Y6 had the opportunity to visit Weston Park for a day working with EKO (Educating Kids Outdoors) as part of a creative arts project in connection with the Rose Patterson art gallery. The funding obtained from the Telford and Wrekin arts society allowed 5 schools to have this opportunity, and we were lucky enough to be chosen.

We spent the day making sculptures inspired by Salvador Dali’s paintings of dream-like elephants. We looked at the local bird life in Telford and then made our own sculptures in the abstract style of Dali, which were then displayed as part of the Rose Patterson Art Gallery ‘Halls Young Artist’ competition (on exhibition at Weston Park). There were 240 birds altogether that have delighted many members of the public since their creation! Well done to all involved in this project!

World Book Day – Year 6

What a fantastic World Book Day! In Year 6, we focused on ‘Graphic Novels’, looking specifically at the story ‘Amulet’ by Kazu Kibuishi. We had a great day of performances, reading to the Reception classes in EYFS and letting our creativity soar!

Recorder Festival Y6

This week, Year 6 travelled to the Anstice in Madeley to take part in the Telford and Wrekin Recorder Festival. The children have been working hard in their music lessons to perfect these songs ready for an audience – and what a show they put on! The children did a fantastic job and did the school, and their music teachers, proud! Well done Y6!

Please enjoy these recordings from the day and the photos we took.

This is My Place Y6

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week and in year 6 we have spoken about belonging and what this means. We made a mosaic by each producing a square that represents us and then putting these all together to show that we belong.
