Medical Matters

Administration of Medication
If your child requires prescribed medication during the school day, Parents / Carers are required to complete an administration of medication form. We are unable to give children medication which has not been prescribed by a doctor or pharmacist (under the Pharmacy First scheme).
We request that school is only asked to administer medication where it cannot be given outside of school hours.
Consent to Give Medication (Med 1) Form
When a member of staff administers medication parents will receive an email notification advising that this has taken place.

Long Term Medical Conditions
If you child has a long-term medical condition such as epilepsy, asthma, allergies etc. please inform the school as soon as possible.
The school will set up an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHCP) with you, which will be shared with all staff involved with the day-to-day care of your child. The IHCP will advise staff of all triggers, symptoms, and treatments required to keep your child healthy and safe in school.
Parents/carers will also be asked to complete a MED1 form to allow staff to administer any required treatment.

First Aid
If your child has an incident in school (resulting in an injury) they will be attended to by a first aider.
School currently has 14 basic first aiders and 11 paediatric first aiders.
The first aider will decide the most appropriate course of action/treatment required following an assessment of your child’s injury. They will then inform you of the incident and any action taken, or request you collect your child should further medical support be required.
You should receive a letter, email or phone call advising you of the incident, and any next steps required.

Monitoring of Medication, Medical Conditions and First Aid
All medical conditions, medication and first aid is monitored through a programme called Meditracker.
