It was National Poetry Day on October the 3rd. This half term, Year 4 have done a poetry unit all about limericks. We found out that limericks were 5-line poems that are often silly or humorous.
We learnt all about syllables. Within limericks, lines 1, 2 and 5 should have 8-10 syllables and then lines 3 and 4 should have 5-6 syllables. We also discovered that in limerick poems, lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyme and lines 3 and 4 rhyme (this means our limericks follow an AABBA rhyming pattern).
Children got to perform their Halloween-themed limericks to their peers and then also during our special National Poetry Day assembly.
