Goldilocks and the three bears
This week we started our fairy tale topic with the story of Goldilocks and the three bears.
The children made character masks to act out the story. They made bear houses using the wooden blocks and hunted for items from the story in the shaving foam.
The children enjoyed trying porridge for snack too!
Reception – Trip To Bakery
Reception had a brilliant WOW visit to our local bakery, Golden Rolls. The children loved seeing all the delicious treats and were very excited to choose their own gingerbread man, each paying £1 before bringing them back to school to read the story and
enjoy together.
On our walk back, we stopped at Dawley Park for a little explore, making the morning even more special. It was a wonderful outing full of smiles, learning, and tasty treats.
Yr 4 – Harry Potter Studios
Year 4 had an extremely exciting day at the Harry Potter Studios tour last Thursday!
Firstly, the children did a workshop where they learnt about how author’s creatures were brought to life for the big screen. We looked at how JK Rowling described the creatures in her books and we got to create our own mythical creatures.
We got to experience the magic of the 25th anniversary of the Philosopher’s stone while we were there. Children were immersed in the magic of the sets, costumes and props from the films, all of which will help us with our descriptive writing units. The children especially enjoyed walking down Diagon Alley, which we are writing about as part of our portal narrative in English.
Then, on Friday, the children had a visit from our very own Hedgwig. One of our parents brought in a baby barn owl to visit the children.
Year 3 Market Research
This week, year 3 invited year 4 to take part in market research for their final DT project.
Year 3 asked year 4 lots of great questions such as:
- What mechanism should we use?
- What colours should we use?
- What pictures should we draw?
Year 4 were so helpful in providing the year 3 children with lots of information for their final project. Keep an eye out for our final projects, we are so excited to make them!
Summer 2 – week 2 – Hansel and Gretal
This week our preschool children have been fully immersed in the magical world of Hansel and Gretel. Through a range of creative, hands-on activities, they explored the story, its characters, and its enchanting gingerbread house in ways that sparked imagination, language, and early maths skills.
The children loved using playdough and small loose parts to design and build their very own gingerbread houses. They carefully selected beads, buttons, sticks, and gems to decorate their creations, showing fantastic fine motor control and creativity.
Working together, the class also produced a large-scale collaborative painting of the gingerbread house. This colourful artwork allowed them to experiment with paint, mix colours, and talk about the details they remembered from the story.
In our tuff tray, the children used prompts and props to retell the story of Hansel and Gretel, building confidence in sequencing and storytelling.
The children have also been practising their early maths skills. Using gummy bear picture cards, they explored subitizing and number composition, recognising small quantities and discovering how numbers can be made in different ways.
To extend their mark-making, the children drew their own gingerbread houses and enjoyed drawing the witch’s house on whiteboards, adding spooky details and sharing ideas about what might be inside.
Outdoors, the children worked together with great enthusiasm to build the witch’s house using large building blocks. They experimented with size, shape, balance, and teamwork as they constructed tall towers, doorways, and imaginative features inspired by the story.
Our fairy tale costumes were a huge hit too. The children loved dressing up and acting out their favourite fairy tales, bringing stories to life through role play, movement, and expressive language.
It has been a magical week of storytelling, creativity, and learning. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved.
The Gingerbread man
This week we looked at the Gingerbread story and song.
We made our own Gingerbread man using different materials including playdough, salt dough and the art materials. We practised our counting skills by matching the buttons on the card to the buttons on the Gingerbread mans body.
We set up a bakery in the roleplay area and took turns to be the baker, shop keeper or the customers. We also baked real Gingerbread men to take home!
Break The Rules Day – Friday 3rd July

Year 3 Parent Workshop
This morning, year 3 invited their adults into school to help make their final DT project. The children made a linkage and lever mechanism based on the Iron Man. The children worked so hard and their final designs turned out so well! Well done everyone. A special thank you to all adults who attended this morning.
