Year 4 World Book Day

Year 4 had an amazing day for World Book Day on Thursday! The children enjoyed a fun-filled morning assembly with a live performance of Peter Pan.

Then, our day was based on the book ‘The Umbrella’ by Elena Melville, which was a picture book all about a magical umbrella. The umbrella helped solve people’s problems, until a sly fox decided to get greedy! We made predictions about the book, discussed what we would wish for if we had a magical umbrella and designed a new front cover for the book.

We loved seeing everyone’s fun costumes and we can’t wait for next year!

Year 3 World Book Day

We had a lovely day celebrating world book day on Thursday. We focussed on the book ‘The Adventures of Beekle’ and focussed all of activities around what our imaginary friend might look like and where they might live. In the afternoon, we picked a book from the library and shared the story with year 2 children.

Week 2 The Enormous Turnip

This week the children have enjoyed activities based around our book ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Some of the activities the children enjoyed were vegetable printing, investigating different vegetable and fruits and sorting them. They have also enjoyed watching the eggs hatch in to chicks and drawing them. They have also enjoyed sing ‘5 Speckled Frogs’ using the prompts in the water tray.

Stay and Play and World Book Day.

This week we also had our Stay and Play and of course World Book day.

The children really enjoyed the activities and dressing up in their favourite character’s costumes and showing their parents all the things they enjoy doing in nursery.

Y1 Food Tasting

In Year 1 we had the opportunity to taste some new foods that will be on our school lunch menu after the Easter holidays. Our favourite new addition was tomato soup!

EKO Art Project Y6

At the beginning of the year, Y6 had the opportunity to visit Weston Park for a day working with EKO (Educating Kids Outdoors) as part of a creative arts project in connection with the Rose Patterson art gallery. The funding obtained from the Telford and Wrekin arts society allowed 5 schools to have this opportunity, and we were lucky enough to be chosen.

We spent the day making sculptures inspired by Salvador Dali’s paintings of dream-like elephants. We looked at the local bird life in Telford and then made our own sculptures in the abstract style of Dali, which were then displayed as part of the Rose Patterson Art Gallery ‘Halls Young Artist’ competition (on exhibition at Weston Park). There were 240 birds altogether that have delighted many members of the public since their creation! Well done to all involved in this project!

Year 2 in London

What a fantastic day we had on our Geography fieldwork trip to London!

The children had an amazing time spotting many of the famous landmarks they have been learning about in class. From high up on the London Eye to travelling along the River Thames on a river boat cruise, they were able to see so many of London’s iconic sights from different viewpoints. There was lots of excitement as they recognised landmarks and shared which ones were their favourites.

This fieldwork will also support learning back in the classroom. The experience will provide cross-curricular links with Maths as the children use statistics to analyse information from the trip. It will also give them real-life context and inspiration for our upcoming English unit, helping them to describe places and experiences they have seen first-hand.

The children were enthusiastic, curious and fully engaged throughout the day, making it a brilliant learning experience as well as lots of fun.

We would also like to say how incredibly proud we are of them all. Their behaviour was excellent and they represented the school beautifully. They’re are a real credit to both you as parents and to our school.

Reception – Starbooks

Mrs Brannon’s class started off our exciting Star books session in the hall. We enjoyed having you join us and share books with your children. Thank you all.

🌿 Reception Update: Food Tasting & Forest School Adventures! 🐦

Reception have had a busy and exciting time recently!

The children took part in a tasting session for our new school menu, where they had the opportunity to try a range of different foods. Everyone was very brave and gave the new dishes a go, sharing their thoughts about what they liked best. It was wonderful to see the children exploring new flavours and talking about healthy choices.

Reception also enjoyed their Forest School session with Amanda. The children explored the outdoor area while learning about birds and their habitats. They looked closely at different types of birds and then worked together to create their own bird nests using natural materials they found around the forest area.

It was a fantastic session full of creativity, teamwork, and outdoor discovery. Well done, Reception!

Year 1 Exotic Zoo Visit

As part of our ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ topic we have been learning all about animal classification. We visited Exotic Zoo and had the opportunity to hold a mammal, bird, amphibian and reptile. The children loved the day and were surprised at how soft the skunk was!
