Week 1 – Whatever Next

This half term we are learning about transport. Our first book of this term was “Whatever Next.” Reception have designed and created their own rockets just like baby bear. We also enjoyed learning about Winter and how snow melts. We had fun exploring the snow, making snowmen and playing alongside our friends.

Week 1 Transport topic

This week the children have started to look at things relating to our Transport topic this term. Some of the things they have enjoyed have been the role play bus where they have taken it in turns to be the driver and the passenger. The children have also enjoyed using the play dough to create different types of transport. They put their snipping skills to the test and collaged some vehicles. The children also explored floating and sinking with the boats and people in the water tray. They have also create their own bus using the big wooden blocks outside. The children also enjoyed going out in the snow and throwing snow balls and rolling the snow. We did try to build a snowman but the snow was to compacted.

Y1 Florence Nightingale Day

In Year 1 we stepped back in time to the Crimean War in Turkey where Florence Nightingale helped save the lives of many injured soldiers. We learnt all about how Florence cleaned the hospitals and gave the patients beds. We also made a lantern because Florence was known as the ‘Lady of the Lamp’ for helping the soldiers through the night.

Talented Writers

Year 6 have been working hard on becoming reporters to publish a newspaper report on the fictional story of ‘Francis’.
The children were challenged to create a news story worthy of publication. A huge thank you to TelfordLive who have published the winning piece.
Please see and read the news story here: https://www.telford-live.com/2025/12/dawley-students-turn-reporters-for-writing-contest/
The children have worked hard on their formal writing techniques and there were so many who shone in this piece. Well done Y6!
