Extracts from our London Eye Mystery story

We have focused on the features of a mystery story. We wrote about a character that ended up in a different dimension after taking a ride on the London Eye! He had to tackle a strange maze and ended up finding a mysterious golden envelope which was addressed to the Prime Minister. The children ended the story on a cliffhanger……

Here are some extracts from their fabulous work!

Orbits!

Y5 are focusing on Space this half term and the children created their own models to show the orbits of the Sun, Earth and Moon!

We will be welcoming a GB athlete into Captain Webb once again term.  Your child will be coming home with a sponsorship form all the details on.  Last year was a great success in which we raised over £500 for school funds.  Hopefully we can raise even more this year for some new sports equipment.

Children will need to get their sponsor forms and money in by Tuesday 19th May.

We will be giving fundraising totals into sport for champions on the Wednesday 20th May.

The official date of the GB athlete visit is Thursday 21st May.

Garden Topic

This week we have started our garden topic. We have been exploring flowers and insects that we might find in the garden.

We have been organising seeds and petals by colour and counting how many we have. The children have made their own flowers using pom poms dipped in paints and we have made insects in the playdough.

We had a great time exploring forest school this week looking at all the flowers and plants and we even found some worms!

Summer term week 1 The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This half terms topic is ‘In the Garden’. We have a lovely new role-play area of a garden centre, which the children have enjoyed exploring this week.

Our first week in the summer 1 term we have been looking at the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Some of this weeks activities the children have enjoyed are making their own butterfly using collage materials. They have also enjoyed the maths this week making repeating AB patterns with the pattern caterpillars. The children have also enjoyed some fruit tasting this week, they tried: blueberries, strawberries, grapes and raspberries, which they were keen to eat. The children have also been printing fruit, they printed pear, pomegranate and banana first looking at the insides of the pear and the pomegranate then looking at the colours they used for printing. On the tuff tray they have been retelling the story using the puppets.

How To Grow A Sunflower!

In Year 2, we have started off the half term by planting sunflower seeds! We are planting sunflower seeds because in Science we want to find out what conditions are best to grow a sunflower!

As part of English, we used our speaking and listening skills to tell each other the correct order to plant a sunflower seeds. We started off by ordering the instructions and used these to explain to our friends how to plant the seeds correctly.

We can’t wait to watch them grow and see which conditions are best for the sunflower to grow!

Piano Exam Success!

Three of our children have been receiving piano lessons from Telford and Wrekin Music. Before the Easter holidays they all took part in a piano exam and passed with flying colours! Everyone at Captain Webb is extremely proud of them. Congratulations to our musicians Grayson, Kai and Andrea.

Week 5 ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’

Our last week of term we looked at the book ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’. the children enjoyed retelling the story with the character masks. They also made their Easter cards and did some Easter maths matching numerals to amounts. In the water tray this week they enjoyed practicing their pouring and filling skills, while in the sand they were testing out how many scoops of sand they could fit in to the tubes.
