Year 3 Easter Packaging

This week, the children have been designing and making packaging for an Easter egg. They have really enjoyed thinking and creating what they wanted their Easter egg box to look like and then creating it in real life.

The children learnt lots of fantastic skills such as cutting, scoring and assembling their net alongside strengthening their packaging by laminating (with an adult’s help of course!).

Week 4 5 Little Ducks

This week the children have been learning the text ‘5 Little Ducks’. Some of their favourite activities have been bathing the ducks. Making arrangements of 3 and 4 using the ducks in the egg boxes. They have also been making observational paintings of daffodils using the water colours.

Y2 Telford Sings

Year 2 children had the opportunity to perform as part of a large choir in Telford Sings. They joined up with many local schools, primary and secondary, to sing in front of a live audience on the Charlton stage. They sang a range of songs including ‘Fly a Kite’ and ‘Can’t stop the feeling.’ Everyone had such a lovely time and the children thoroughly enjoyed the audience participation. We are all so proud of our Year 2 children especially as they were the youngest there!

Year 4 Myths

Year 4 have loved writing their own myths based on Arthur and the Golden Rope this half term. They rewrote the stories using their own inspiration, coming up with their own unlikely heroes, ferocious mythical beasts and magical items.

Their intended audience for their stories were our lovely Year 2 classes. We think it’s safe to say the Year 2s loved hearing their exciting stories as many of our children got a 10/10 rating from their listeners! What a lovely afternoon Year 2 and Year 4 have had 😊

Year 2 Art

In Year 2, we have been learning all about The Great Fire of London that happened in 1666. We have really enjoyed learning about how the fire started, the damage it caused and how we know all about it!

In Art, we have been looking at the artist Lieve Verschuier who painted the Great Fire of London. We looked at his artwork and noticed that he uses tints and tones of the primary colours to make the fire look bright and stand out against the dark backgrounds.

We used the techniques of ‘dab’ and ‘rag dabs’ to create our own ‘The Great Fire of London’ paintings, ensuring that we created tints and tones.

Have a look at some of our masterpieces!

Telford Zonal – Chess Competition

On Monday, Captain Webb competed in the Telford Zonal chess competition at Windmill Primary School. They were bidding for a place in the final of the Shropshire Primary chess championship. After 5 closely fought rounds, Captain Webb emerged victorious and won the gold medal and the B team even managed 3rd place. Well done to all the players and in particular the winning team of Harry B, Lukas Z, Lochlan O’D and Luful S. Let’s wish them luck for the final in a couple of months time.

Loudmouth Workshop

Year 5 and 6 were invited to a workshop with Loudmouth today, a theatre in education company, who taught us all about how to stay safe online. We covered lots of different scenarios with the team who taught us about misinformation, disinformation and how to spot these online. We also went over what to do if we see something online that upsets us, and who we can discuss this with.

Easter

This week we read the story of Higgly hen. We did activities based around Easter and eggs.

The children explored the Easter tuff spot, sorted and counted eggs and we even had an Easter egg hunt in forest school. The children took a particular interest in the different colours and patterns we could see on the Easter eggs.

Easter Egg Competition

Thank you for all the “eggcellent” entries we received.  The children who entered will be sent home with a cream egg today.

Congratulations to our overall winner, Sophia!

Sophie Mai Y5

Congratulations to Sophie Mai!  She has successfully auditioned for the Year 6 young dancers programme.
