Fundraising – Diabetes UK
We are so proud to share Rooney’s efforts with you, from Year 6, who has been fundraising for Diabetes UK completing a sponsored swim. Since the 22nd of March, Rooney has swam well over 12 miles (surpassing his goal of 11 miles), raising over £350 for charity. His hope is to help raise awareness for Diabetes and support his grandmother who lives in Hong Kong. We are so proud of you Rooney! Just keep swimming!
Bike4Life Year 6
This weekend, George (in Year 6) attended and supported the Bike4Life event with his family. The well-known ride is 26 miles from Meole Brace in Shrewsbury, to the Bike4Life Festival at Weston Park in Shropshire and attracts more than 6,000 bikers, who help to raise money for the Air Ambulance. Well done George for spending your weekend supporting such an important cause!
Reception Explore Nature at Severn Valley Country Park
Our Reception children enjoyed a wonderful day of outdoor learning during their trip to Severn Valley Country Park, where they put their knowledge of minibeasts and habitats into action. The visit gave them the perfect opportunity to explore real-life environments and discover which creatures live in ponds, trees and the forest.
Pond Life Up Close
The adventure began at the pond, where the children took part in pond dipping. With nets and trays at the ready, they carefully scooped through the water to see what they could find. Their excitement grew as they spotted frogs, small fish, and a variety of water bugs. Using magnifying pots, they examined their discoveries closely, noticing details they had learned about in class.
Searching for Minibeasts
Moving into the woodland and meadow areas, the children continued their exploration. They searched under logs, around tree roots and through leafy patches, finding woodlice, worms, beetles, and even a few speedy spiders. They talked about why different creatures choose different habitats, thinking about food, shelter and safety.
In the forest, the children looked carefully at the trees and the forest floor. They noticed how damp, shady areas were perfect for some bugs, while others preferred dry or sunny spots. Their observations showed just how much they have learned about the natural world and how confidently they can apply their knowledge outdoors
Burglar Alarms
Year 6 have been investigating electricity in science this week and today were set the challenge of making a burglar alarm for Miss Saville’s house. We investigated making our own switches by using insulators and conductors, which broke and connected our circuit, allowing the buzzer to sound when the door was opened.
Watch the video of our burglar alarm in action on a door!
The Ants go Marching
This week we looked at the rhyme ‘The ants go marching’.
The children investigated ants and the other insects we might find in the garden. We made ants using the paints and junk modelling and even had a go at feeding them leaves during our maths activity this week.
Year 2 Sculptures
In Year 2, we have been looking at the artist Marc Quinn. He is a sculptor who makes flower sculptures out of bronze. We have been inspired by him and have decided to make our own flower sculptures out of clay! 🌸🌺🌻🌼
Here are some pictures of us in the process of making our sculptures. We needed to cut, roll and mould the clay to recreate our design plan! We then added texture to our flowers!

Stay tuned to see our final pieces once we have painted them 😁
British Science Week 2026
British Science Week this year was all about igniting children’s curiosity through questioning! We did lots of fun activities throughout school – here are just a few that the children took part in …
Year 1 spent some time outside and explored the different weather conditions we get in the UK! They wondered what happens when we sometimes have sun and rain together? And why do we have fog in Autumn?
In Year 2, they looked at what plants need to grow. They had a discussion about plants and came up with a few questions that they were intrigued to find out from their experiment! They are…Do plants need sunlight to grow? How many days will it take our sunflower to grow? What will happen if we do not water our plants? Can we grow sunflowers without water and sunlight?
Year 4 discovered why it was so important to look after our teeth. They placed eggs in different liquid and studied what happened over time. They realised the egg shells acted like the enamel on our teeth and discovered what sugary drinks, vinegar and coffee could do to your teeth!
Summer 1 week 6 ‘The Gruffalo’
This weeks book was ‘The Gruffalo’. The children have enjoyed their P.E. session with Crossbar, using the climbing frame and learning different ways to travel over the equipment. The children have been retelling the story using the tuff tray and props, they have also been using the Nursery garden to go on a Gruffalo hunt meeting all the characters from the story. The children have also made their own ‘Owl Ice cream’. The children have also been practicing their maths by putting the Gruffalo’s prickles on his back and finding the frogs in the Gruffalo swamp.
This week we have also been looking at the artist Andy Warhol and have made paintings in his style.
Y6 Parent Workshop
Year 6 would like to thank everyone who came to our parent workshop this morning, consolidating our science and design and technology knowledge to create a wire loop game with electrical components.
Yr 4 D&T – Making purses
In Design and Technology this half term, Year 4 built on their sewing skills by practising running stitch and backstitch, which they then used to sew their purses together.
The children enjoyed designing and making a purse for a friend and focused on embellishing their designs to make them unique.
Year 4 can’t wait to take their purses to Harry Potter World with their spending money inside!
Yr 4 Reading Café
This half term, the Year 4 classes proudly hosted their Starbooks cafés. It was wonderful to welcome parents into school to share stories with their children while enjoying a hot drink and a snack together.
The event was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the variety of books in our library and celebrate reading for pleasure.
Thank you to all the families who attended and helped make the event such a success!
Y1 Church Visit
As part of our RE unit ‘Churches and Synagogues’ we visited our l Holy Trinity Church in Dawley. We learnt all about the features of a Church such as the font and lectern. We also enjoyed chatting to Reverend Scott.
KS2 Girls – T&W Cricket Tournament
A massive well done to the KS2 girls who competed in the T&W cricket tournament held at Arscott Cricket Club. They played through rain, wind and sun but no matter the weather they demonstrated fantastic, positive attitudes throughout. They had won 2, drew 1 and lost 1 until the weather finally put a stop to the competition.

Reception – A Special Visitor: Cloudy the Owl at Forest School
What an exciting day we had at Forest School! Today was extra special because we met a beautiful owl named Cloudy. Everyone was full of excitement and curiosity as we gathered together to learn all about this amazing bird.
Meeting Cloudy
Cloudy was calm and gentle, with soft feathers and big, watchful eyes. We learned that owls are nocturnal, which means they usually stay awake at night and sleep during the day. Even though it was daytime, Cloudy was very relaxed and happy to visit us.
Asking Questions
We had the chance to ask Dave, Cloudy’s handler, lots of questions. We were very curious and wanted to know everything!
Here are some of the things we discovered:
What Do Owls Eat?
Dave told us that owls like Cloudy are carnivores—they eat meat! Their favourite foods include:
We had such a wonderful time meeting Cloudy and learning from Dave. It was a day full of curiosity, questions, and new knowledge. We will remember this experience for a long time!
Thank you, Dave and Cloudy, for visiting us at Forest School!

Summer 2 – Week 1 – Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Summer 2 – Fairy Tales Topic
This half term we have begun exploring our new topic: Fairy Tales. To start things off, the children have been diving into the classic story Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and they’ve had a wonderfully busy first week back.
What We’ve Been Learning
📚 Story Focus – Goldilocks and the Three Bears The children have enjoyed retelling the story, drawing the characters, and talking about what happens in the tale. They have also been writing their own shopping lists inspired by the story and our new role‑play area.
🍬 New Role Play Area – The Sweet Shop Our brand‑new sweet shop has been a huge hit. The children have loved taking on different roles, using their imagination, and practising early writing and number skills while “shopping”.
🔺 3D Shapes and Construction While building the bears’ house, the children have been exploring 3D shapes, talking about cubes, cylinders, cones and more. They’ve used both small construction materials indoors and the large wooden blocks outside to create their own versions of the bears’ home.
🐻 Comparing and Sorting Bears A big focus this week has been comparing sizes. The children have been sorting the bears by size and colour in the tuff tray, and again in the sandpit. This has helped them use mathematical language such as big, small, bigger, smaller, tall, and short.
✏️ Drawing and Mark Making The children have been drawing the characters from the story, thinking carefully about details and using their mark‑making skills to bring the bears and Goldilocks to life.
MP Visit – Shaun Davies
We would like to say a huge thank you to Shaun Davies, our local MP for Telford, for taking the time to come and visit us in school today. As a follow up from visiting parliament, we were able to meet with Shaun and ask questions about his role in parliament.
Shaun also gifted the school with a new book for the library, titled ‘If I Ran The Country’, which will be placed in the library in the new academic year.
