Recorder Festival Y6

This week, Year 6 travelled to the Anstice in Madeley to take part in the Telford and Wrekin Recorder Festival. The children have been working hard in their music lessons to perfect these songs ready for an audience – and what a show they put on! The children did a fantastic job and did the school, and their music teachers, proud! Well done Y6!

Please enjoy these recordings from the day and the photos we took.

Year 4 Viking Workshop

This week, Year 4 had an exciting visitor … Erik Erikkson, a real-life Viking!

He taught us all about Viking life, including the clothing they wore, the weapons they used and law and punishment. We also got to look at lots of different artefacts including real Viking armour! All of this will help us immensely with our History topic this half term, which is called Vikings: Were they Traders or Invaders?

Here are some quotes from the children about the fun facts they learnt:

He told us that Saxon’s thought washing was unhealthy, so they only had one bath a year!” – Faith H

They drank beer because it was cleaner than drinking the water.” – Sophie D

The Saxons and Vikings took their parents name so if my name was Grayson and my dads name was Kyle, my name would be Grayson Kyleson, which tells people I am Kyle’s son.” – Grayson J

He told us Vikings would typically only live to be 30 years old, so they got married at 11 and had lots of children early. Did you know, the dads also got to pick who they married.” – Lillie A

There was no letter J in the alphabet so if your name was Jack, you would say it like Yack.” – Tyler P

Y1 World Book Day

For World Book Day we read the story ‘Jonty Gentoo’ by Julia Donaldson. We used this book to help us learn how to draw a penguin and design a new front cover. We also created a map using a key to show where Jonty travelled in the story. One of our favourite activities was finding all of the rhyming words. Here are some of our costumes for World Book day 2026!

We spent time in Y1 reading with the children from Y1 as ‘Reading Buddies’

World Book Day – Year 6

What a fantastic World Book Day! In Year 6, we focused on ‘Graphic Novels’, looking specifically at the story ‘Amulet’ by Kazu Kibuishi. We had a great day of performances, reading to the Reception classes in EYFS and letting our creativity soar!

World Book Day – Year 2!

We have had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day in Year 2.

We focused on the book ‘The Detective Dog’ by Julia Donaldson and like Dell the Detective Dog, we were tasked with solving some crimes!

We looked at the clues to work out what story books had been taken and where they had been hidden! Have a look at the photos below to see us reading the clues and finding the missing story books!

Reception World Book Day

This week in Reception we had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day! The children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters and loved sharing who they had chosen and why. It was fantastic to see so many imaginative costumes inspired by their favourite stories.

As part of the celebrations, the children enjoyed spending time reading and sharing books with our Year 6 buddies. The older pupils helped bring the stories to life and it was lovely to see the children listening carefully, joining in with the stories and talking about their favourite parts.

The children also got creative by making puppets of their favourite book characters. They had lots of fun designing and decorating their puppets and then using them to retell parts of their favourite stories.

It has been a fantastic week full of stories, creativity and a love of reading!

World book day

We celebrated world book day this week with a Julia Donaldson themed day.

We set up activities based on our favourite books and the children came dressed up as some of their favourite book characters. We also shared some of our favourite stories together on the carpet.

Stay and play

This week we invited the parents from day care to come and join us for a stay and play session. This session fell on world book day so we had lots of exciting activities based around our favourite stories!
