Year 1 Safer Internet Day

On Safer Internet Day we learnt all about what AI (Artificial Intelligence) is and how to use it safely. We talked about AI that we have in our home like Alexa. At home we use Alexa to ask about the weather or play music that we like and we discussed how this was a safe way to use AI. We learnt that it would be unsafe to tell AI personal information about ourselves or our friends. We also joined in a webinar with lots of other schools to learn about AI and how computers learn information from humans.

Year 1 Number Day!

As part of Number day we came to school wearing numbers. We bought in board games that involve numbers including Snakes and Ladders and Uno. The children enjoyed playing ‘Hit the Button’ games on the interactive white board to practise number bonds to 10.

Year 1 Make Fruit Kebabs

In Year 1 we made a healthy snack as part of our DT unit on food and nutrition. We decided to make a rainbow fruit kebab so that it would be part of our 5 a day. We learnt that fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals that help to stop us getting poorly. We will be writing a set of instructions in English explaining how we did it.

Y1 Florence Nightingale Day

In Year 1 we stepped back in time to the Crimean War in Turkey where Florence Nightingale helped save the lives of many injured soldiers. We learnt all about how Florence cleaned the hospitals and gave the patients beds. We also made a lantern because Florence was known as the ‘Lady of the Lamp’ for helping the soldiers through the night.

Christmas carols at The Ley

This week the Captain Webb Choir walked to our local sheltered housing for the elderly at The Ley and joined their Christmas celebrations. They sang Christmas songs and joined them for a festive meal. We are not sure who enjoyed it more the residents or the children!

Year 1 Telford Tours

On a rainy Tuesday Year 1 went on their very own Telford Tour. We walked along the River Severn and over the Ironbridge. Then we visited The Wrekin. We talked about the River Severn and The Wrekin being physical features because it is natural and the Ironbridge being a human feature because it was made by people.

Shark in the Park!

As part of our writing unit we walked to Dawley Town Park to read the story Shark in the Park. We made our own telescopes so that we could become Timothy Pope from the story and look for the shark.

Harvest Festival

We celebrated the annual Harvest Festival through a whole school assembly today.

This was led by our local Reverend Jo.

Everyone gave very generously to the harvest – it was a magnificent collection, and it has all been taken to the Dawley food bank, who are always extremely grateful to receive such a large amount of food. The food will be used to make food parcels for those who are in great need.

Thank you again to everyone for being so supportive.

YR – Little Play Place Trip

Reception had an amazing time at The Little Play Place where we all played at being little people in the big wide world! We enjoyed exploring the supermarket, vets, bakery and many more role play areas. It was a fantastic learning experience for all.
