This week we have been learning all about space with our zoom to the moon story. We made our own rocket in the role play area, made aliens in the play dough and explored making night sky pictures using the chalks and the glitter.

This week we read the story ‘walking through the jungle’.

We have explored different sounds and ways to move our bodies, like the animals in the story. We have painted pictures of the animals and made our own binoculars ready to go for an animal hunt in forest school.

The children have enjoyed sorting the different wild animals into groups and counting how many they have.

We have started back this term learning all about different types of transport. We have focused on cars and boats over the last few weeks.

We have sorted and arranged vehicles, counting them as we go and looking at big and small. We set up a car garage in our home corner and have taken a ride on our bus and boat.

We have made animal masks from our row your boat story and explored the boats in the water tray too this week.

This week we have been enjoying lots of Christmas activities ready for the festive season.

We set up Santa’s workshop in our roleplay area, had a go at wrapping presents and decorated Christmas trees. We held our Christmas party on Thursday and played party games and enjoyed our snack plates from home.

This week the children have been learning all about the nativity story. We have been exploring our nativity scene tuff spot and talking about what happens in the story. We have made stables using the different construction materials and started making lots of Christmas crafts for our families.

We also celebrated Christmas jumper day and had our Christmas dinner all together.

This week the children have been learning all about Hanukkah. We made our own candles using the wooden blocks, the collage materials and the playdough. We had a go at some Hebrew writing in the sand and did some counting using the pegs on our menorahs.

Last week we learnt all about birthday celebrations. We created our own birthday party in the home corner and practised counting out the cakes to each other. We created birthday cards, party hats and cakes in the playdough.

The children had a great time playing traditional party games and dancing to party songs too.

This week in Daycare we have celebrated Diwali. We have explored activities based around colour and pattern. We made our own Rangoli patterns using coloured water, play dough, shapes and the paints. We also explored some traditional music and dancing.

This week we read the story of the busy squirrel. We talked about Autumn and the different changes we might see.

We made leaf suncatchers, hedgehogs and Autumn trees. We also explored our Autumn tuff spot full of natural resources and practised our counting skills by scooping the lentils to make pumpkin pots.
