The three little pigs

This week we read the story of the three little pigs. We used the puppets to retell the story and concentrated on counting up to 3 this week.

We made different houses using the materials from the story, made pig masks and explored the pigs in muddy gloop.

We also celebrated careers day with different activities and lots of dressing up.

Daycare Careers Day

To celebrate careers week we set up a range of activities in Daycare for the children to explore. We talked about different careers and some of the things we might like to do when we grow up!

Incy Wincy spider

This week we explored the Incy Wincy rhyme in Daycare. The children had lots of fun making spiders and webs using different materials. We looked at positional language using the spiders and tubes in the tuff spot and had a go with our remote control spider, Harry!

I’m a little teapot

This week we explored the little teapot story and rhyme. The children have spent the week exploring tipping and pouring in the water tray and trying to identify full and empty. The children have used their hands to dip and squeeze the tea bags to make our own blend of tea.

We set up a tea shop in our roleplay area and used our maths skills to share out the cups, plates and cakes with our friends. The children also had a go at making their own sandwiches and cakes using the playdough and decorated their own tea pots using different marks to create patterns and shapes.

The Gingerbread man

This week we looked at the Gingerbread story and song.

We made our own Gingerbread man using different materials including playdough, salt dough and the art materials. We practised our counting skills by matching the buttons on the card to the buttons on the Gingerbread mans body.

We set up a bakery in the roleplay area and took turns to be the baker, shop keeper or the customers. We also baked real Gingerbread men to take home!

Goldilocks and the three bears

This week we started our fairy tale topic with the story of Goldilocks and the three bears.

The children made character masks to act out the story. They made bear houses using the wooden blocks and hunted for items from the story in the shaving foam.

The children enjoyed trying porridge for snack too!

The Ants go Marching

This week we looked at the rhyme ‘The ants go marching’.

The children investigated ants and the other insects we might find in the garden. We made ants using the paints and junk modelling and even had a go at feeding them leaves during our maths activity this week.

The very busy Spider

This week we read the story of the very busy spider. We spent the week making spiders and their webs using different materials. We caught and counted spiders in our tuff spot web and even had a go with a remote control spider called Harry.

Runaway pea

This week we read the story of the runaway pea.

We had a go at catching peas in the water tray and counting how many we caught with our nets. We made different vegetables from the story using the paints and the playdough and even made some funny pea faces.

The children also practiced their ball skills, rolling and catching them down the pipes in the garden.

Stay and play

This week we welcomed our parents and carers into Daycare for a stay and play session. The activities were all based around our story of the week ‘The runaway pea’. The children and their adults had a lovely afternoon exploring the different activities and catching some runaway peas.
