Summer 1 week 3 Jasper’s Beanstalk.

This week the children have been looking at the book ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’. Some of the activities they have been enjoying this week were sorting and counting vegetables in their own little vegetable garden. Making flowers with the playdough. Counting the beans for Jasper’s Beanstalk. Creating their own flower gardens, retelling the story in the tuff tray. The children also revisited prior learning by retelling the story of The Very Quiet Cricket.

Summer 1 Week 2 ‘The Very Quiet Cricket’

This week the children have been looking at the book ‘The Very Quiet Cricket’. They have enjoyed making insects out of play-dough. Making summer drinks in the water tray. Also, they have been drawing different insects, first using the magnifying glasses to look at the insects in detail. The children have also been retelling the story using the tuff-tray and making worms out of honey hoops, where they were practicing their count and fine motor skills. The children also enjoyed collaging their cricket pictures.

Summer term week 1 The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This half terms topic is ‘In the Garden’. We have a lovely new role-play area of a garden centre, which the children have enjoyed exploring this week.

Our first week in the summer 1 term we have been looking at the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Some of this weeks activities the children have enjoyed are making their own butterfly using collage materials. They have also enjoyed the maths this week making repeating AB patterns with the pattern caterpillars. The children have also enjoyed some fruit tasting this week, they tried: blueberries, strawberries, grapes and raspberries, which they were keen to eat. The children have also been printing fruit, they printed pear, pomegranate and banana first looking at the insides of the pear and the pomegranate then looking at the colours they used for printing. On the tuff tray they have been retelling the story using the puppets.

Week 5 ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’

Our last week of term we looked at the book ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’. the children enjoyed retelling the story with the character masks. They also made their Easter cards and did some Easter maths matching numerals to amounts. In the water tray this week they enjoyed practicing their pouring and filling skills, while in the sand they were testing out how many scoops of sand they could fit in to the tubes.

Week 4 5 Little Ducks

This week the children have been learning the text ‘5 Little Ducks’. Some of their favourite activities have been bathing the ducks. Making arrangements of 3 and 4 using the ducks in the egg boxes. They have also been making observational paintings of daffodils using the water colours.

Week 3 ‘Pig in the Pond’

This weeks text was ‘Pig in the Pond’. The children have enjoyed exploring floating and sink objects in the water tray. They have also enjoyed washing the farm animals, retelling the story of the ‘Pig in the Pond’. This week the children also got to hold the chicks that have hatched, 5 very healthy boys. They also made their ‘Mother’s Day’ cards, which they were very proud of.

Stay and Play and World Book Day.

This week we also had our Stay and Play and of course World Book day.

The children really enjoyed the activities and dressing up in their favourite character’s costumes and showing their parents all the things they enjoy doing in nursery.

 

Week 2 The Enormous Turnip

This week the children have enjoyed activities based around our book ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Some of the activities the children enjoyed were vegetable printing, investigating different vegetable and fruits and sorting them. They have also enjoyed watching the eggs hatch in to chicks and drawing them. They have also enjoyed sing ‘5 Speckled Frogs’ using the prompts in the water tray.

Chinese New Year and Farm on Wheels

This week the children have been celebrating Chinese New Year by trying Chinese food, creating Chinese lanterns and Chinese dragon prints. Also this week the children got to go and meet all the animals at the Farm on Wheels. Racket the donkey, Cinderella and Captain Drake the ducks. They also got to feed the 1 week old baby lambs who were yet to be named. A mother hen and her 2 chicks and what I think was their favourite part … petting the Guinea pig.

Week 1 Spring 2. Farmer in the Dell

This week we were looking at the  nursery rhyme ‘Farmer in the Dell’. The have been enjoying the new role play of a farm shop. They have also been using their comparison skills when sorting the veg in the sand. The children have also been making their own 2d shape tractors. Using the play dough to create their own vegetables and singing 5 Speckled Frogs in the water tray. The children also enjoyed playing the instruments while sing ‘Farmer in the Dell and Old Mc Donald’.
