Week 5 We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

This week the children looked at the text ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. The enjoyed making their own shape bears, creating the scenes from the text using different materials and practicing their scissor skills. The also enjoyed using the playdough to create characters and scenes from the story. This week they also got to use the construction vehicles in compost digging and creating paths just like real construction workers. The children also celebrate Number day by dressing up with their favourite numbers on.

Week 4 ‘Oi Get Off Our Train’

Last week we looked at the text, ‘Oi Get Off Our Train’. The children used the big wooden blocks to build their own train to ride. They also used their maths knowledge to create a repeating pattern train print. The children also acted out the story with masks using the repeated refrain of, ‘Oi get off our train’, every time a new animal boarded the train. They also tested their construction skills when they had to raise the train track up using blocks.

Week 3 The Great Explorer

In week 3 this term we looked at the story, ‘The Great Explorer’. The children made boats from playdough, igloos and practiced their maths skills with the penguins. The children also looked at the globe just like the Great Explorer did before he set off on his journey to rescue his dad. The children also enjoyed using their fine motor skills with giving the snowman his features.

Week 2 The Journey

This week the children were looking at the book ‘The Journey’ which is all about a toy boats travels once it has broken free from its string. The children have made boat prints, fish puppets. Caught fish in the water tray and made sand castles in the big sand pit. They have also been exploring how to make plastic ducks move using water and jugs. They also went on a little fishing trip with their boats made for two.

Christmas.

This week the children have been in full festive mode. They have had their Christmas Production, which they were all fabulous in! The children have also been fully engaged in Christmas crafts and activities. It was also Christmas dinner this week, which they absolutely enjoyed.

 

Hanukkah

This week the children have been looking at Hanukkah. They have enjoyed making play-dough menorahs and practicing their counting with adding candles to the menorah. The children also enjoyed playing the percussion instruments while singing the Dreidel song. The children have also begun to make some of their Christmas crafts. This week also saw the change of the seasonal tuff-tray from Autumnal to Winter, where they were exploring a winter wonderland.

Elmer’s Birthday

This week the children have been looking at birthdays. They have enjoyed making cakes with the sand and play dough. They have also enjoyed making real cakes and decorating them. Also this week they have enjoyed using paper cups to build a ‘cake’ with layers. The children have also been counting to five using the party tuff-tray making sure they have 5 hats, cups, plates, blowers and pieces of cake. The children also looked at identifying numerals to help colour Elmer in.

Diwali week

This week the children have been looking at Diwali as part of our Celebration topic. They have enjoyed making Diya lamps and Diwali bells. They have also been exploring light and shadows because the story behind the Diya lamps is that they are used to show how light/good triumphed over darkness/evil in the Rama and Sita story. The children have also been looking at Rangoli patterns and using this knowledge in creating repeating patterns. This week the children were enjoying using the equipment in their P.E. session.

Little City morning

The children really enjoyed the Little City morning this week. They loved all the different areas such as the Beauty salon, the Police station, the Construction zone, the Garage.
