British Science Week 2026

British Science Week this year was all about igniting children’s curiosity through questioning! We did lots of fun activities throughout school – here are just a few that the children took part in …

Year 1 spent some time outside and explored the different weather conditions we get in the UK! They wondered what happens when we sometimes have sun and rain together? And why do we have fog in Autumn?

In Year 2, they looked at what plants need to grow. They had a discussion about plants and came up with a few questions that they were intrigued to find out from their experiment! They are…Do plants need sunlight to grow? How many days will it take our sunflower to grow?  What will happen if we do not water our plants? Can we grow sunflowers without water and sunlight?

Year 4 discovered why it was so important to look after our teeth. They placed eggs in different liquid and studied what happened over time. They realised the egg shells acted like the enamel on our teeth and discovered what sugary drinks, vinegar and coffee could do to your teeth!

Year 2 Sculptures

In Year 2, we have been looking at the artist Marc Quinn. He is a sculptor who makes flower sculptures out of bronze. We have been inspired by him and have decided to make our own flower sculptures out of clay! 🌸🌺🌻🌼

Here are some pictures of us in the process of making our sculptures. We needed to cut, roll and mould the clay to recreate our design plan! We then added texture to our flowers!

Stay tuned to see our final pieces once we have painted them 😁

Burglar Alarms

Year 6 have been investigating electricity in science this week and today were set the challenge of making a burglar alarm for Miss Saville’s house. We investigated making our own switches by using insulators and conductors, which broke and connected our circuit, allowing the buzzer to sound when the door was opened.

Watch the video of our burglar alarm in action on a door!

Bike4Life Year 6

This weekend, George (in Year 6) attended and supported the Bike4Life event with his family. The well-known ride is 26 miles from Meole Brace in Shrewsbury, to the Bike4Life Festival at Weston Park in Shropshire and attracts more than 6,000 bikers, who help to raise money for the Air Ambulance. Well done George for spending your weekend supporting such an important cause!

Fundraising – Diabetes UK

We are so proud to share Rooney’s efforts with you, from Year 6, who has been fundraising for Diabetes UK completing a sponsored swim. Since the 22nd of March, Rooney has swam well over 12 miles (surpassing his goal of 11 miles), raising over £350 for charity. His hope is to help raise awareness for Diabetes and support his grandmother who lives in Hong Kong. We are so proud of you Rooney! Just keep swimming!

SATS Reward

Year 6 have worked incredibly hard in the run up to their SATS this week and earned a well-deserved treat: a trip to the town park for a picnic and play on the equipment. The sun was shining and we had a lovely afternoon. We are so proud of the way the children have conducted themselves this week, really rising to the challenge! Well done Year 6!
A special thank you to Zach’s mum for keeping us cool and refreshed with ice lollies and ice cream – very much appreciated and enjoyed by all. Thank you!

Y1 DT Parent Workshop

In Year 1 we have been learning all about dinosaurs and we have written the story ‘We are going on a Dinosaur hunt.’ As part of our DT unit we made moving dinosaur pictures to go into our book corner for our stories. We made sure our pictures had a mechanism to make it move. We used levers to make the tail and jaw move and sliders to move dinosaurs along the ground. We invited our parents and carers in to help us and we couldn’t have done it without them!

Year 2 Visit to Dorothy Clive Gardens

On Tuesday 21st April,  Year 2 had an exciting visit to Dorothy Clive Gardens!

We walked around the beautiful, colourful gardens, visited the waterfall, planted some seeds and found out all about bees and how we can protect them!

After visiting the waterfall, we care going to create a diamante poem to describe the waterfall at Dorothy Clive.

We all had a wonderful day out 😊
