Reception – The Way Back Home

This week in Reception we have been learning the story The Way Back Home. The children have really enjoyed exploring the adventure in the story and talking about the characters and what might happen next. We have been practising retelling the story and using our imaginations to create our own ideas.

We have also been very busy with lots of exciting activities! The children loved making Valentine’s Day cards for their families and friends. They worked carefully to decorate them and write special messages.

In our creative area, we made clay Martian aliens inspired by our story. The children had lots of fun shaping, rolling and adding details to their aliens. In the construction area, they built fantastic spacecrafts using the blocks, showing great teamwork and imagination.

In Maths, we have been learning how to add numbers together. The children have been using practical resources and objects to help them count and find the total.

We are very proud of all the wonderful learning that has taken place this week!

Year 2 Safer Internet Day!

In Year 2 we have been learning all about staying safe online for Safer Internet Day. We learnt all about what AI (Artificial Intelligence) is and how to use it safely.

We spoke about AI that we have in our home like Alexa and Siri. We use Alexa at home to tell us the time, to play music, turn lights on and off, set alarms, help us with our homework and tell us what the weather for the day will be like. We discussed how to safely use AI and that telling these devices our personal information would be unsafe.

We also joined in a webinar with lots of other schools to learn about AI and how computers learn information from humans. We looked at how AI might recognise animals and we were then asked to draw a cat to help AI recognise different types of cats.

Year 2 DT Workshop!

As part of our London topic, we have been looking at famous London Landmarks. In DT we have been researching and making winding mechanisms. We then went on to apply this to creating the Tower Bridge with a winding mechanism. We invited our parents and carers in to help us make the Tower Bridge.

We think that they all look amazing! Thanks so much to our Year 2 parents and carers who joined us at our DT Workshop. Here are some pictures of our workshop and some of the final products!

Year 1 Make Fruit Kebabs

In Year 1 we made a healthy snack as part of our DT unit on food and nutrition. We decided to make a rainbow fruit kebab so that it would be part of our 5 a day. We learnt that fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals that help to stop us getting poorly. We will be writing a set of instructions in English explaining how we did it.

Chess Competition

On Thursday of week 2, eight year 6 children attended the Shropshire schools Junior Chess championship, bidding for a place in the National Junior chess championship. The room was full of seasoned players and Shropshire’s own individual champion. Our team, all competing for the first time, did brilliantly, every played secured a win and Captain Webb narrowly missed out of the podium by half a point, finishing in an admirable 4th place out of 8. Well done to team members, Lukas, Lochlan, Harry, Lutful, Geroge, Mason, Iosif and Mathew.
