Year 2 Boys Crossbar Cup

On Wednesday the Year 2 boys took part in the penultimate Crossbar Cup of the summer, for some of them it was their first time representing the school!

After some tricky games in the group stage (only losing 1 game out of 5!) we finished 3rd, giving us a spot in the semi final of the plate competition.

After a comfortable victory in the semis, we went through to the final against a very good Hollinswood team who unfortunately scored a fantastic goal to defeat us 1-0.

Whilst the boys were disappointed to lose in the final, they should be extremely proud of themselves for leaving with silver medals in a tournament with so many quality teams.

Careers Day Dress Up in Mrs Cottrell’s Class!

In Year 2, we had lots of fun dressing up for Careers Day! We had vets, doctors, singers, footballers, a pilot, a police officer, YouTubers and even ‘Mini Mrs Cottrells’. 😀😀😀

Year 2 Careers Week

As part of Careers Week, Year 2 enjoyed visits from some very special guests who shared their exciting jobs with us.

We were fascinated to meet Tom, a British Airways pilot, who told us all about his daily role, the important safety checks he completes before every flight, and the many amazing destinations he has travelled to around the world. We even had the chance to pretend we were landing an aeroplane and were thrilled to try on his pilot’s hat!

We also welcomed a hairdresser called Sam, who explained what it’s like to work in a salon and shared some of the skills needed to care for and style hair. She told us that her favourite hairstyle that she has ever done was one for the Olympics!

The visits were a fantastic way to inspire our children and help them learn about a variety of careers. A big thank you to our visitors for giving up their time to make Careers Week so memorable!

British Science Week 2026

British Science Week this year was all about igniting children’s curiosity through questioning! We did lots of fun activities throughout school – here are just a few that the children took part in …

Year 1 spent some time outside and explored the different weather conditions we get in the UK! They wondered what happens when we sometimes have sun and rain together? And why do we have fog in Autumn?

In Year 2, they looked at what plants need to grow. They had a discussion about plants and came up with a few questions that they were intrigued to find out from their experiment! They are…Do plants need sunlight to grow? How many days will it take our sunflower to grow?  What will happen if we do not water our plants? Can we grow sunflowers without water and sunlight?

Year 4 discovered why it was so important to look after our teeth. They placed eggs in different liquid and studied what happened over time. They realised the egg shells acted like the enamel on our teeth and discovered what sugary drinks, vinegar and coffee could do to your teeth!

Year 2 Sculptures

In Year 2, we have been looking at the artist Marc Quinn. He is a sculptor who makes flower sculptures out of bronze. We have been inspired by him and have decided to make our own flower sculptures out of clay! 🌸🌺🌻🌼

Here are some pictures of us in the process of making our sculptures. We needed to cut, roll and mould the clay to recreate our design plan! We then added texture to our flowers!

Stay tuned to see our final pieces once we have painted them 😁

Year 2 – Mr Davies Reading Cafe

☕📚 Reading Café 📚☕

Thank you so much for the incredible support our Reading Café received today. It was wonderful to see so many families joining us and enjoying such a special time together.

Our Reading Café gave adults the chance to relax with a cup of tea or coffee, enjoy a bit of cake, and most importantly spend quality time reading with their child.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and their smiles in these photos say it all! Thank you for helping us create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We look forward to hosting more special events like this in the future. 💛

Year 2 Visit to Dorothy Clive Gardens

On Tuesday 21st April,  Year 2 had an exciting visit to Dorothy Clive Gardens!

We walked around the beautiful, colourful gardens, visited the waterfall, planted some seeds and found out all about bees and how we can protect them!

After visiting the waterfall, we care going to create a diamante poem to describe the waterfall at Dorothy Clive.

We all had a wonderful day out 😊

How To Grow A Sunflower!

In Year 2, we have started off the half term by planting sunflower seeds! We are planting sunflower seeds because in Science we want to find out what conditions are best to grow a sunflower!

As part of English, we used our speaking and listening skills to tell each other the correct order to plant a sunflower seeds. We started off by ordering the instructions and used these to explain to our friends how to plant the seeds correctly.

We can’t wait to watch them grow and see which conditions are best for the sunflower to grow!

Year 2 Art

In Year 2, we have been learning all about The Great Fire of London that happened in 1666. We have really enjoyed learning about how the fire started, the damage it caused and how we know all about it!

In Art, we have been looking at the artist Lieve Verschuier who painted the Great Fire of London. We looked at his artwork and noticed that he uses tints and tones of the primary colours to make the fire look bright and stand out against the dark backgrounds.

We used the techniques of ‘dab’ and ‘rag dabs’ to create our own ‘The Great Fire of London’ paintings, ensuring that we created tints and tones.

Have a look at some of our masterpieces!
