Thank you so much for the incredible support our Reading Café received today. It was wonderful to see so many families joining us and enjoying such a special time together.

 

Our Reading Café gave adults the chance to relax with a cup of tea or coffee, enjoy a bit of cake, and most importantly spend quality time reading with their child.

 

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and their smiles in these photos say it all! Thank you for helping us create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We look forward to hosting more special events like this in the future. 💛

 

Year 2 Visit to Dorothy Clive Gardens

On Tuesday 21st April,  Year 2 had an exciting visit to Dorothy Clive Gardens!

We walked around the beautiful, colourful gardens, visited the waterfall, planted some seeds and found out all about bees and how we can protect them!

After visiting the waterfall, we care going to create a diamante poem to describe the waterfall at Dorothy Clive.

We all had a wonderful day out 😊

   

   

  

 

How To Grow A Sunflower!

In Year 2, we have started off the half term by planting sunflower seeds! We are planting sunflower seeds because in Science we want to find out what conditions are best to grow a sunflower!

As part of English, we used our speaking and listening skills to tell each other the correct order to plant a sunflower seeds. We started off by ordering the instructions and used these to explain to our friends how to plant the seeds correctly.

We can’t wait to watch them grow and see which conditions are best for the sunflower to grow!

   

     

Year 2 Art

In Year 2, we have been learning all about The Great Fire of London that happened in 1666. We have really enjoyed learning about how the fire started, the damage it caused and how we know all about it!

In Art, we have been looking at the artist Lieve Verschuier who painted the Great Fire of London. We looked at his artwork and noticed that he uses tints and tones of the primary colours to make the fire look bright and stand out against the dark backgrounds.

We used the techniques of ‘dab’ and ‘rag dabs’ to create our own ‘The Great Fire of London’ paintings, ensuring that we created tints and tones.

Year 4 Myths

Year 4 have loved writing their own myths based on Arthur and the Golden Rope this half term. They rewrote the stories using their own inspiration, coming up with their own unlikely heroes, ferocious mythical beasts and magical items.

Their intended audience for their stories were our lovely Year 2 classes. We think it’s safe to say the Year 2s loved hearing their exciting stories as many of our children got a 10/10 rating from their listeners! What a lovely afternoon Year 2 and Year 4 have had 😊

Y2 Telford Sings

Year 2 children had the opportunity to perform as part of a large choir in Telford Sings. They joined up with many local schools, primary and secondary, to sing in front of a live audience on the Charlton stage. They sang a range of songs including ‘Fly a Kite’ and ‘Can’t stop the feeling.’ Everyone had such a lovely time and the children thoroughly enjoyed the audience participation. We are all so proud of our Year 2 children especially as they were the youngest there!

Healthy Snacks in Year 2.

As part of our PSHE unit ‘Healthy Me’, Year 2 have been looking at different ways to have a healthy body and mind. Today, we looked at how we can create healthy snacks and why they are important. We decided that they were important because they have lots of vitamins in them that help to keep us healthy and strong!

Our teachers asked us to create healthy snacks at home and bring them into school to try! It was wonderful to see the variety of snacks that were made! From fruit kebabs, fruit salad, blueberry oat cookies, raspberry and strawberry muffins, banana loaf to rice cakes with hummus and so much more!! They were delicious!!

World Book Day – Year 2!

We have had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day in Year 2.

We focused on the book ‘The Detective Dog’ by Julia Donaldson and like Dell the Detective Dog, we were tasked with solving some crimes!

We looked at the clues to work out what story books had been taken and where they had been hidden! Have a look at the photos below to see us reading the clues and finding the missing story books!

Children’s Mental Health Week 2026

This week across the school, we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme for this year is ‘This is My Place’, which is based around belonging and how we can feel a sense of belonging and help others feel like they belong. We also spoke about the importance of recognising how someone might be feeling and asking them if they are okay.

Each year group watched the online Picture News assembly celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week and took part in different activities to help children feel like they belong and helping each other to recognise feelings and emotions.

 

In Reception,

We have been talking about things that make us happy and things we enjoy. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas and creating their own “things I love” poster 😊

 

 

In Year 1, children discussed how they can feel happy and safe. Here are some things that children said:

Emily: Mental Health week is about understanding your feelings.

Sienna: I feel I belong in my dance club because I have lots of friends who are kind.

Seb: It is about feeling like you belong.  I feel like I belong with my friends at school because they make me feel happy and I have fun at school.

    

 

In Year 2, children spoke about different ways that we can help children feel like they belong.

Darcey: We can ask someone to play with us if they are alone. 

Callen: Be kind to others

We also played the ‘Emotions Heads Up Game’. In the game we used facial expression and description to show an emotion to our partner. Our partner then had to guess what the emotion was. From this, we spoke about how we could help each other when we are feeling different emotions.

 

 

 

In Year 3, the teachers spoke to the children about belonging. They brainstormed ideas where the children felt that they belonged – a place or person where they felt safe and comfortable and could talk about their feelings. Children then thought of four different places where they belonged and decorated their poster with pictures and words.

 

In Year 4, children listened to author Katie Hopper’s new book ‘Sylvia’s Candle’ which was all about feelings that you couldn’t name but could describe. They then got to do some fun activities linked to the live assembly. Some children played a game that helped describe emotions, some created a mosaic of what makes us special which will be displayed in class to show that we all belong, some children drew an illustration for one of Katie’s new books that helps show a character’s feelings and finally some children created posters with their name on and drew things that interest them and what bring them joy!

     

 

In Year 5, children talked about a sense of belonging and how it helped their mental health. They then designed a ‘BELONGING BOOK’ where children drew pictures of themselves. Mrs Penfold and Mr White collected them in. They were then handed to other children in the class who added a positive comment to the speech bubbles about the person.

   

 

In Year 6, children spoke about belonging and what this means. They each made a mosaic by each producing a square that represents us and then putting these all together to show that we belong.

 

In Crossbar lessons, children started the lesson with yoga and wellbeing exercises. This made sure we felt relaxed and ready to learn!

 

Year 2 Safer Internet Day!

In Year 2 we have been learning all about staying safe online for Safer Internet Day. We learnt all about what AI (Artificial Intelligence) is and how to use it safely.

We spoke about AI that we have in our home like Alexa and Siri. We use Alexa at home to tell us the time, to play music, turn lights on and off, set alarms, help us with our homework and tell us what the weather for the day will be like. We discussed how to safely use AI and that telling these devices our personal information would be unsafe.

We also joined in a webinar with lots of other schools to learn about AI and how computers learn information from humans. We looked at how AI might recognise animals and we were then asked to draw a cat to help AI recognise different types of cats.
