I Have a Dream…

Year 6 have been learning all about the influence of Martin Luther King Jr. over the past 2 weeks in English. We have taken inspiration from his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, and written our own speeches showing our hopes, aspirations and dreams for the world, the environment, our country, our friends and our family. Science – Circulatory System

In Year 6 this week, we have been learning all about the circulatory system and how blood moves around our body.

We found our pulse using a cocktail stick and then went outside to set up a model of the circulatory system including the blood, the blood vessels and the heart.

Science – Microorganisms

Year 6 have been looking back at their science enquiry skills by making observations over time. We have been learning about microorganisms, why they are a living thing and trying to find out where is the dirtiest place in the classroom.

Computing Competition Year 6

Year 6 had the opportunity to test their computational thinking at an event held at HLC in conjunction with RoarTech. The children tested their problem solving and reasoning skills through a variety of unplugged activities to try to crack the code.

Mark Chetwood Visit Year 6

In science, Year 6 have been learning all about microorganisms. We had a visit from Mark Chetwood from Langley, who helped us to set up an investigation with petri dishes. We were able to choose and swab places around the classroom and will be observing over time to see if there are microorganisms that grow.

Donald Malone Visit Year 6

Last week, Year 6 were treated to a day filled with exciting activities with Donald Malone, an explorer, scientist and zoologist, who has worked all around the world with animals and conservation teams. Donald taught us all about his work in the Antarctic, linked to our topic, Frozen Kingdom.

Wrekin College Maths Challenge

Today, some of our Y6 mathematicians had the opportunity to travel to Wrekin College to take part in a a fun, fast-paced afternoon of brain-teasing questions, teamwork, and friendly competition. We cannot wait to hear how our boys got on! Well done for how well you represented Captain Webb!

Weston Park – Year 6

Year 6 travelled to Weston Park today to join EKO (Educating Kids Outdoors). Amanda, who has worked for the past few years at Captain Webb in Forest School sessions, invited us down for a day of art, team building, reflection and campfires! We had a great time taking part in an art competition (which you will be able to view in the art gallery for free at Weston Park in January) and being at one with nature.

SnapTrap – 2Engage

Today, as part of our PSHE and computing/online safety curriculum, year 5 and 6, as well as their parents and carers, participated in a dynamic interactive theatre workshop called Snap Trap led by 2Engage. Their mission is to raise awareness, challenge perceptions and start conversations regarding online safety. Through captivating storytelling and interactive discussions, they brought to life the real-world experiences of children affected by online bullying, social media misuse, and online grooming.

The children were reminded of the SMART targets and we stressed the importance of keeping themselves safe when online.
