Reception Trip Park Hall Farm

Reception had an unforgettable adventure at the farm today. From the moment we arrived, the children were very excited, and the animals didn’t disappoint.

🐑 Meeting the Sheep
The children loved getting up close to the sheep, learning about their woolly coats and watching them graze. There were lots of curious little hands eager to give them a gentle stroke.

🐴 A Visit with the Pony
Next, we met a friendly pony

who quickly became a class favourite. The children were fascinated by his shiny mane and enjoyed learning how ponies are cared for on the farm.

🐇 Saying Hello to the Rabbits
The rabbits were a huge hit too. Soft, fluffy, and incredibly cute, they had everyone smiling. The children were delighted to see them hopping around and nibbling on their snacks.

🐖 The Grand Pig Race Finale
We ended the day with the much‑anticipated pig race. The excitement was sky‑high as the pigs trotted down the track. In a thrilling finish, the green pig dashed ahead and claimed victory, much to the children’s delight.

It was a day full of learning, laughter, and memorable moments. Reception can’t wait for their next adventure!

Stay and play

This week we invited the parents from day care to come and join us for a stay and play session. This session fell on world book day so we had lots of exciting activities based around our favourite stories!

World book day

We celebrated world book day this week with a Julia Donaldson themed day.

We set up activities based on our favourite books and the children came dressed up as some of their favourite book characters. We also shared some of our favourite stories together on the carpet.

Reception World Book Day

This week in Reception we had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day! The children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters and loved sharing who they had chosen and why. It was fantastic to see so many imaginative costumes inspired by their favourite stories.

As part of the celebrations, the children enjoyed spending time reading and sharing books with our Year 6 buddies. The older pupils helped bring the stories to life and it was lovely to see the children listening carefully, joining in with the stories and talking about their favourite parts.

The children also got creative by making puppets of their favourite book characters. They had lots of fun designing and decorating their puppets and then using them to retell parts of their favourite stories.

It has been a fantastic week full of stories, creativity and a love of reading!

Farm topic

This week we have started our farming topic. We are learning all about the animals who live on the farm and the different sounds they make.

We set up a farm shop in the roleplay area, explored the sensory farm tuff spot and organised and counted the animals. We were also lucky enough to have a visit from the farm on wheels this week where we got to meet some of the animals and learn all about them.

Chinese new year

This week we celebrated Chinese new year with lots of activities based around the celebration. We set up a Chinese restaurant in our roleplay area, had a go at Chinese writing and even had our own Chinese food tasting.

Chinese New Year

Our Reception children have had a wonderful time celebrating Chinese New Year! We enjoyed dancing to festive music, making colourful dragons, creating beautiful lanterns and painting our very own dragon pictures. The children loved learning about the traditions and sharing in the celebrations together.

In Maths, we have been learning all about the number 9. We have been busy sorting objects into groups that show 9 and not 9, helping us to recognise and understand the number in different ways. We are so proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm the children have shown!

Zoom to the moon

This week we have been learning all about space with our zoom to the moon story. We made our own rocket in the role play area, made aliens in the play dough and explored making night sky pictures using the chalks and the glitter.

We all go travelling by

This week we read the story we all go travelling by. We have explored all the different types of transport vehicles and turned our roleplay area into an airport.

We made our own passports, packed suitcases and talked about where we would like to go on holiday. We even set up a flight simulator in the classroom.

Reception Transport Trip

One of our highlights this week has been our exciting trip on a double decker bus and a train journey. We enjoyed learning about the different types of transport and what we would see at a train station. When we got back we enjoyed painting and creating our own double decker buses. Thank you to our wonderful families for joining us on our trip.
